Ouran High School Host Club
(Ouran Koukou Hosuto Bu)
By: Kimberly England

"At Ouran Private Academy, lineage comes first, then money. Wealthy people have leisure time, thus in the Ouran Host Club, handsome boys who have too much free time on their hands flourish by entertaining equally idle girls. A unique and magnificent play set in a super-rich school." -Tamaki

Ouran High School Host Club is an anime about a club of boys who entertain girls with conversation and tea everyday after school. Each host is unique in his own way and represents different type of attitude and personality: wild type, Lolita boy type, devilish type, and cool type. The setting is the Ouran High School campus which has architecture resembling that of the Palace of Versailles in every way except Ouran is pink and blue. The anime and manga are considered Shojo, which means for girls, but guys can enjoy it too.
The host club's members are as follows, Tamaki Suou is the president, also called the club's King, he is a sophomore. Kyoya Ootori is a sophomore too and the vice president as well as every other officer position (treasurer, historian, publicity, etc.); he founded the club with Tamaki. Tamaki calls himself Otou-san (father in Japanese) and calls Kyoya, Okaa-san (mother in Japanese), no one is sure why.
Takashi Morinozuka's nickname is Mori, Mitsukuni Haninozuka is nicknamed Honey, both Mori and Honey are juniors. Hikaru & Kaoru Hitachiin are twin brothers in ninth grade. Lastly is Haruhi Fujioka, a freshman too.
Haruhi is a girl from a middle class family who is awarded a full scholarship to the extremely exclusive (and expensive) private school, Ouran High School. In appearance, Haruhi looks like a boy, large wire framed glasses, short brown hair, wears the boys uniform, and put politely, has a small bust measurement.
At 3:22pm on Haruhi's first day at Ouran, while searching for a quiet place to study, she walks into Music Room 3, the host club's headquarters. All of the hosts are inside and Kyoya immediately recognizes her as the "thick skinned commoner" who won the scholarship--there is only one scholarship at Ouran. She is overwhelmed by the outgoing personalities of the hosts and shatters a 8,000,000¥ (approximately $67, 063.66) vase that was conveniently located near the door. "'When in Rome, do as Romans do.' If you don't have the money, pay with your body!" (Tamaki, episode 1) She is forced to work as the club's lackey until the debt is paid off, or until graduation. Eventually she is promoted to host after the boys give her a makeover and see that she is attractive and will bring in customers.
This anime addresses issues like social class discrimination, incest, and homosexuality with light hearted context and tone. It is also sexually suggestive, but that does not mean that your five year old sister can't watch it nor enjoy it, provided she can read subtitles.
Other than such controversial topics, it also discusses pressure put on the upper class students by their families, the pressure to maintain family honor by becoming successful and marrying other equally honorable and successful people.
Ouran High School Host Club was created by Bisco Hatori. The production company is Bones, which uses CG animation, giving it a crisp and clean look to it, even in AVI format. One must know either Japanese or how to read subtitles to be able to understand the anime, simply because it is only available in Japanese at the moment. The manga is licensed by Viz and available online or at your local manga retailer. There are 26 episodes in all and each episode is about 23min long and 170mb in size.

I hope you will Google it and see for yourself how wonderful it is! :D
